Fire & Smoke Detection Systems

Automatic Fire Detection Systems, when combined with other elements of an Emergency Response and Evacuation Plan, can significantly reduce damage to property, personal injuries, and loss of life as a result of a fire occurring in the workplace. Their main function is to quickly identify a developing fire, and alert the buildings occupants and Emergency Response Teams, before any significant or extensive damage, or risk to life has a chance to occur. Automatic Fire Detection Systems do this by using Electronic sensors to detect the smoke, heat, or flames from a fire, thereby providing an early warning.

Fire Alarm and Smoke Detection Systems vary greatly depending on the nature of the premises, the size of the premises, the nature of the activity, the number of persons using the site etc. They also vary greatly from commercial premises to private residences, hotels & guesthouses, schools, hospitals and so on. For this reason, it is vital that the premises be surveyed by a qualified and competent engineer where installation of a system is required.

The Irish Standard in relation to the requirements of Fire Alarm Installation & Service is IS 3218 : 2013
